Tjungaringanyi newsletter - Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM), 1975 to 1992

Tjungaringanyi was the newsletter of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM), 1975 – 1992.  The publication was suspended in 1984 and between 1986-1990. In 1991, the newsletter was re-established as a magazine with a minor change in the spelling of the title, Tjunguringanyi.[1]  Tjunguringanyi is a Pitjantjatjara word meaning ‘people coming together’.[2]

The newsletter documents the work of CASM and includes information about courses, session and visit reports, student and staff experiences and reflections, information about community visits, study opportunities and announcements, and student and staff achievements.

In earlier years, the front cover of the newsletter featured original artwork by Aboriginal artists including from Indulkana and Pitjantjatjara community members.  The 300 prints of Volume 1, issue 3 were hand-designed with the front cover of each print having its own individual artwork.

Frequency of publication varies over time.  Numbering is irregular, issues for 1980 are incorrectly designated volume 7 instead of volume 6.  Some issues are missing.
