Anthony Radford studied medicine at the University of Adelaide, graduating with an MB and BS in April 1961. [1] He also served as the University's Faculty of Medicine representative on the Community Health Centre Board. [2]
Anthony Radford was Foundation Professor and then Emeritus Professor of Primary Care and Community Medicine at Flinders University. He conducted an annual Summer School for health professionals on furlough or preparing for medical mission in less resourced areas. [3]
Before and after that appointment, he accumulated a total of 50 years of experience in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Radford first went to that country as a student in 1951; from 1963 to 1972, he was a public health officer there; and later, he consulted on PNG for the World Health Organization, UNICEF and AusAID. [4]
At age 56, Anthony retired from Flinders University and commenced providing locum relief services in rural South Australia and the Northern Territory [5], travelling with his wife Robin Radford (nee Burnard). Robin, a social worker, graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1960 with a Diploma in Social Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree. [6]
Anthony Radford is a former chairman of the Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship of Australia and a former vice-president of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association.
Emeritus Professor Anthony Radford AM was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday 2019 Honours List for significant service to medicine, to medical education, and to global health. [7]
