Charles Francis Drew was born in Kooringa, near Burra, South Australia. He was educated at Prince Alfred College and the University of Adelaide where he completed his medical degree in 1911.
Drew was the first Triple Blue winner from the University of Adelaide. He participated in athletics, cricket and football as well as the Sports Association General Committee. He also played League Football as a member of the North Adelaide team and represented South Australia in cricket as a right-hand batter.
Drew served as a Captain in World War I (1915-1919). He returned to Adelaide after the end of the war in 1920 and acquired a medical practice in Hindmarsh where he worked for the rest of his working life.
He was held in high regard by his medical colleagues for his high standards of medical ethics.
