Edith Ulrica Hübbe was born 10 October 1885, her parents Edith Agnes Hubbe (nee Cook) and Samuel "Sam" Grau Hubbe.
Generally known as Rica, she undertook a B.A. at the University of Adelaide, which she completed in 1908. Rica then taught before returning to the University in 1915, completing a medical degree (MB BS) in 1922 (reference to Rica as a current student and past graduate is made in various University of Adelaide Calendars).
From 1927 to 1933 Rica taught at the University of Adelaide as Instructor in Physiology and Demonstrator in Biochemistry.
She subsequently practised medicine from the family home.
