The Stock Journal [Feb 2011] published a biography of Bidstrup when he retired, writing: "Former Roseworthy College student Ian Bidstrup finished his career in agriculture responsible for management of the place where it began after retiring as the Martindale Holdings general manager last month.
While the Roseworthy Campus farm was only one of several properties he managed, it was also where he began his journey in agriculture as a graduate of the class of 1965.
For more than 30 years Ian worked for the University of Adelaide, looking after several properties in its portfolio including the now university-owned Roseworthy Campus farm at Roseworthy, Martindale Farm at Mintaro, Moralana Station at Hawker, Munduney Station at Spalding and Glenthorne at O'Halloran Hill.
One of the most respected farm managers in the State, Ian's involvement with the university began in January 1981 when he was hired as the Martindale cropping manager.
Previously the property had only been sharefarmed since it was bequeathed to the university by JAT Mortlock.
At the time the Martindale Holdings Limited board of directors included Professor Jim Quirk, managing director Ray Norton, and two members who represented the farming community, Jim Pocock and Grant Mayfield."
