Margaret Ellen Allen

Margaret was a founding member of the Women’s Studies Course Team at Salisbury College of Advanced Education (CAE) from 1978 and was intimately involved in the planning and development of the Graduate Diploma in Women’s Studies program (started mid-1979) and subsequently the MA in Women’s Studies.  Following the university amalgamations in 1991, Margaret became part of the Women’s Studies department at the University of Adelaide, frequently serving as Head of department. She was promoted to Professor in 2007.  Her main areas of teaching were feminist histories, feminist theory and in gender, work and social policy.  Margaret retired in 2010 and was awarded the title Emerita Professor in 2011.  In ‘retirement’ she continues her research into transnational histories.  Marg loved teaching and researching in gender studies, and avows that it ‘has been both empowering and humbling'.
