Vignette 107: Adelaide University Sports Association
VIGNETTE
Like education, sport has the power to inspire. It brings people together, united by a mutual aim. The University is proud to offer opportunities for students to gather as a community to pursue their shared goals.
In 1897, the University’s lacrosse, tennis and boat clubs merged and collaborated to establish the Adelaide University Sports Association, which we now know as Adelaide University Sport. It plays an integral role in the lives of students, boasting 39 clubs, three gyms, and seven venues.
Understanding the power of sport to improve physical health, mental health and social connectivity, the Adelaide University Union supported the Association from its first establishment. Through recreation, competition, or professional skill development, each club in the association contributes to a robust student culture of self-development, community and leadership.
