Vignette 57: The Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program
VIGNETTE
The Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program has been a transformative initiative, focusing on nurturing the success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in their senior secondary years and guiding them through the transition to higher education.
Karnkanthi, meaning ‘lifting up’ in the Kaurna language, is a program tailored to build on the unique strengths of each participant. It fosters a supportive environment, offering guidance and cultural connectedness.
The Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program provides two streams: the Full Program and the Associate Program. It offers private tutoring, development activities, travel and accommodation support, and student scholarships.
The program also organises events like careers night, camps, SATAC and exam revision days, cultural nights, and much more to prepare students for university life.
Guiding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students on their personal education journeys since 2018, the Karnkanthi Indigenous Education Program at the University offers a bright future for all students.
