Cultural Landscapes: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Paintings in the Library

The Barr Smith Library Cultural Landscapes art collection brings together a diverse range of paintings created by Aboriginal Artists across Australia. Their paintings tell various stories of the artists' culture, experience living on the land, as well as stories of their culture's dreaming. The library has purposely sought out these artworks a part of an initiative to help visualise and educate others on Indigenous knowledge as a part of the library’s commitment to cultural respect, reconciliation, and the celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and cultures.  This collection highlights the importance of custodianship, identity, and connection to Country and encourages visitors of the library to engage and understand the diversity and complexity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures.
