The Observatory was a gift to the University from F W Wheadon, general manager of the Adelaide Electric Supply Company, and an amateur astronomer. The building is clearly identifiable as an observatory by its domed roof and outside spiral staircase. The telescope, housed in the dome, is still in use for teaching purposes. The main part of the building has been repurposed as the Adelaide Campus Children’s Centre.
