The Cottage on Kintore Avenue adjacent to the Hartley Building was constructed in 1936. Designed and built by Woods, Bagot, Laybourne-Smith & Irwin it has been used for a variety of purposes, including Caretaker’s Residence, Maintenance Superintendent’s Residence and more recently by the Alumni Association. Today it is mostly used as an instrumental practice area for students of the Elder School of Music.
This modest two-story cottage with its painted exterior walls, terracotta-roofing tiles, sash windows is set amidst an attractive rose garden and makes an effective companion to the larger and more elegant Hartley Building.
