Wills, Chairman of the Finance Committee 1954-60, a member of the Council 1945-68, Deputy Chancellor 1961-66 and Chancellor 1966-68. He was active in promoting the welfare of both staff and students, improving conditions of service for staff and took an active interest in the welfare of students.
In 1974 the Wills Building was opened and named in recognition of his contribution to the University community.
The four-storey building forms part of a major redevelopment (along with the Hughes Building / Plaza and the southern section of the Barr Smith Library) of this area of the University. Most of the Prince of Wales Building had to be demolished to make way for the Wills Building (leaving only the Old Classics Wing). The Wills Building links The Mitchell Building to the Hughes Building.
Today it accommodates various areas of the central administration including the University Council Room.
