From the outset the Adelaide University Sports Association's (AUSA) constitution established a General Committee as its core administrative structure.
Initially this consisted of ‘a patron, president, six vice-presidents, two joint treasurers, and a secretary’.
As the number of associated clubs and overall membership grew, so too did the size and makeup of the General Committee with the addition of club secretaries and representatives of other interested parties including the University Council, Graduates’ Association, Footlights Club and the residential colleges.
During the mid-1970s, following an extended period of post-War growth, the AUSA adopted a revised constitution ‘to bring about a more efficient management structure and to emphasise its recreational role.’ Under the new constitution the General Committee became the Sports Association Council.
In the early 1990s the constitution was again redrafted resulting in the Management Committee being expanded to a Board of Management.
The Board today is responsible for:
the hiring or leasing of any grounds or buildings necessary for the activities of the Association and Clubs
through the Executive Officer, in liaison with the University grounds maintenance staff, for the management of all playing fields and buildings used by the Association
through the Executive Officer, for the control of all matters appertaining to the general administration and finances of the Association with the proviso that all budgetary allocations to Clubs shall require approval by Council
for the annual audit of the books and accounts of the Association or any Clubs, at any time, at the Board's discretion
for delegating the finance portfolio to 1 Board member annually
for determining the time and manner of payment of fees
for determining the action against Clubs whose subscriptions and/or fees have not been paid and received by the time set by the Board including withholding grants, benefits, advantages, privileges or services of Association membership from those Clubs unless otherwise approved in writing by the Council.
