In December 2013 a review of the structure and operation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was undertaken by Emeritus Professor Peter Wolnizer and a Review Panel with members drawn from inside and outside the University. The report prepared by the Review Panel identified a wide range of issues that, in the Panel's view, were obstructing the efficient operation and strategic development of the Faculty and Schools. These changes resulted from some of the review report recommendations:
separating the 'discipline' of Art History from History
renaming the Faculty from Humanities and Social Sciences to Arts
ceasing the School of History and Politics and moving the 'disciplines' of History and Politics to other Schools
renaming the 'discipline' of Classics to include Archaeology and Ancient History
renaming the Centre of Asian Studies to Asian Studies.
From 1 January 2015, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was renamed "Faculty of Arts" and was comprised of four Schools: Education, Elder Conservatorium of Music, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Art History and History transferred to the School of Humanities, and Politics and International Studies transferred to the School of Social Sciences.
