Gilbert Harvey was born on 22 June 1886 in Adelaide, the son of James Harvey and Jessie Matilda (Maud) Roe.
He attended Queens School, North Adelaide and the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1911 with a medical degree (MB BS).
He played with the Adelaide University Football Club (A Grade and Intervarsity, 1907) and was on the Intervarsity Lacrosse Team (1907).
Harvey was subsequently a resident medical officer at the Adelaide Children's Hospital. [1]
Harvey enlisted with British Forces in 1917 and served with the Royal Army Medical Corps attached to 1st Battalion King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment.
On 29 September 1917, whilst on leave in Cornwall, he married Elspeth Young.
On 25 November 1917, less than two months after his marriage, Capt Harvey was killed in action in France. He is listed on the Australian War Memorial's Commemorative Roll. [2]
