Kingson £-s-d Pocket Calculator. Donated by Laurence Campbell who obtained the item in 1963-65, this mechanical pocket calculator was one of the many early pocket calculators used before the 1970s. This model was designed by Kingson to calculate British and Australian currencies of pounds, shillings, and pence with addition and subtraction functions. This aluminium calculator consists of the body, six sliders, top stick, and a stylus and is capable of calculating currencies of up to 999 pounds. The calculator is used by manually controlling the sliders with the use of the pointed stylus, the numbers can then be reset through pulling the top stick. Since the introduction of the electronic calculator in the 1970’s these manual calculators quickly became obsolete and rare to find.
