Reproduction - alpha particle range cell. Made for Bragg Centenary, in Physics Workshop. Packed for travel.
This replica constructed for Professor Bragg by his research assistant A L Rogers in 1904, illustrates the ingenious design of Bragg who used it to show that the alpha particles from radium consist of four well-defined energies and the ionisation in air produced a prominent peak, know as the 'Bragg Peak', near the end of their paths. It was for this work that he received his Fellow of the Royal Society in 1907.
Bragg treasured the original and kept it in his study all his life.
