Vignette 78: 100 years of the Waite Research Institute

The Waite Research Institute (WRI) (previously Waite Agricultural Research Institute) was first established in 1924 following a bequest of land from Peter Waite. WRI is internationally recognised for its world-class research, development, teaching, and commercialisation in Australia. It boasts the largest concentration of expertise in the Southern Hemisphere, spanning plant biotechnology, cereal breeding, sustainable agriculture, wine, food, horticulture, and land management.

WRI is dedicated to innovation for a sustainable future in agriculture, collaborating closely with relevant sectors to address challenges such as limited resources, higher energy costs, and environmental degradation. 

The Institute’s focus is on producing high-quality, nutritious, and climate-resilient products through impactful research.
